What to photograph before listing your home

Photos are usually the first thing buyers judge. They do not need to be dramatic, but they do need to be clear, bright and honest. A strong photo set helps buyers understand the home before they inspect.

Start with the outside

Use a clean front exterior photo as the opening image when possible. Move cars, bins and loose items out of frame. If the home has a courtyard, deck, pool or garden, include those spaces early in the gallery.

Show the layout, not just the best corner

• Photograph the living area from more than one angle.
• Include the kitchen, main bedroom, bathrooms and any study or second living area.
• Avoid hiding rooms that need work. Buyers prefer clarity over surprises.

Use a floor plan if you can

A floor plan helps buyers decide whether the home suits their needs before they enquire. If you do not have one, a local property photographer or floor-plan provider can usually prepare one quickly.

Keep editing simple

Brightness and straightening are fine. Heavy filters, stretched rooms and fake skies can damage trust. The goal is to make the property easy to understand, not to make it look like a different home.
